Kuuki recently won the Southern Downs Regional Climatic Art Competition for our proposal of an illuminated sculptural work. See the Southern Downs Council Announcement.
For the development of the concept we sought to capture the magical feel of Girraween and the areas around Stanthorpe, and were inspired by the dynamic colour palette of the area’s vegetation as it changes across the four seasons, the eternal constant of granite’s lichen and quartz patina, and the region’s unique, delicate wildflowers. The form of the work comes from the stamen of one of the regions rare wildflowers, the Grevillea scortechinii. The illumination patterns of the work will be derived from local temperature and weather patterns, as well as visitor interaction. Below are a number of our initial renders for the proposed work.
